Theory Test Information
The theory test is made up of two parts, multiple choice and hazard perception.
The multiple choice part uses a touch screen computer and the hazard perception part records your mouse clicks. Both parts need to be passed, if you fail one part you fail the whole test and will have to re-take it. You can still learn to drive whilst training for your theory test.
Multiple Choice & Case Study Part
You will be given a choice of answers, some will require more than one choice of answer. You will be asked 50 multiple choice questions questions in 57 minutes and the pass mark is 43 out of 50. Candidates will answer the questions in the normal way using the touch screen or mouse. The case study will assess candidates’ understanding of driving theory, whilst the multiple choice questions will continue to assess their knowledge of the subject.
Hazard Perception Part
You will be presented with a series of 14 video clips which feature every day road scenes. In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards. There are 15 scoreable hazards in total. The earlier you respond the higher your score. The highest score you can achieve is 5 working it's way down to zero for missing the hazard altogether. The pass mark for the car hazard perception part of the theory test is 44 out of 75.
